Have Perceptions Changed Since the Days of Currer Bell?

Charlotte Brontë’s astute observation of the lens through which men viewed women back in the day was very telling of the times in which she lived. Writing a 21st-century heroine, I wonder how much those views have evolved and how much people today continue to buy into perpetuating these stereotypes.
